THE PERFECT HAIRCARE ROUTINE FOR ALL HAIR TYPES

While you may celebrate your love for the rains with the almost proverbial chai and pakoras, the season unfortunately spares no love for your hair. Frizz, dandruff and dull hair are just some of the things you’re going to have to deal with when it comes to hair care in the monsoon. But as always, help is at hand as we tell you how to tackle these common monsoon-related hair problems with some effective hair care tips.

If your hair is curly or wavy

The rains can spell disaster for hair that is curly or wavy. Unlike straight and silky hair, this kind of hair is generally susceptible to frizz. Add to this the humidity in the air, and you have one hell of a frizzy mess sending your regular hair care routine for a toss!

What you can do: The first step in hair care damage control is a hydrating shampoo and conditioner. A good shampoo will hydrate the hair shaft from within while the conditioner will further smoothen and lock in the moisture. Your hair could use all the pampering it can get so go for that deep conditioning treatment or try a hydrating hair mask at home.

This season is also a time to keep a check on your lifestyle and habits even if they might not be hair care specific. Excessive smoking, caffeine and processed foods have a tendency to dry out the hair. Stock up on water, fresh fruits and vegetables to improve your hair and overall health.

If your hair is thin and scanty

The excessive humidity coupled with sweating can adversely affect your scalp and hair making it dry and brittle. If not addressed, these can lead to more hair fall, make your hair care problems even worse. Plus, commuting in the rains makes the hair wet or damp, which doesn’t help matters.

What you can do: A mild, volumising shampoo, followed by a conditioner should be a must-add to your hair care routine. It’ll keep your scalp clean and add that much-needed bounce to your hair. Also, remember to keep your hair dry as far as possible. If you must use a hair dryer, make sure that your hair is air-dried first. Monsoon hair care pro tip: While drying, keep the dryer at a considerable distance from the hair.

If your hair is damaged

This weather isn’t too kind to damaged hair either. Apart from dryness and dullness, dandruff is also a common concern that can wreak havoc with hair that’s already damaged.

What you can do: Hair care in the monsoon can be quite tricky. First of all, keep your scalp clean with a good sulfate-free shampoo which will prevent it from dandruff and revitalise it. Stay away from styling treatments and products. The chemicals and heat can weaken the hair leading to further damage. Instead, give your hair all the TLC you can with homemade hair masks and a diet rich in proteins, fruits and vegetables. Your hair will thank you for it!
