Ways to make your pores appear smaller
Our skin needs pores to store the naturally occurring oils called sebum. So they are necessary to maintain the elasticity of the skin and to keep it moisturised.
However, what we can do is keep the pores clear so the oil doesn’t attract impurities, which may clog the pore, and enlarge them. There is a higher concentration of pores around the nose area and that’s why it is essential to keep this area clean at all times. Make sure your skin can ‘breathe’– there should be nothing clogging the pores. Clogged pores can lead to pimples, blackheads and whiteheads.
Wash your face Every. Single. Night.
Late night at the office? Pulled an all-nighter for an upcoming exam? There’s no running away from removing your makeup before you sleep. Wash your face at the end of the day to remove the dirt and oil build-up that takes place through the day.
Exfoliate
Exfoliation is key when dealing with pores. Slough away the dead cells and the dirt that is hiding within your pores with a good exfoliator. Once again, focus on your nose and chin while exfoliating.
Tone
You must have heard this a thousand times before and it cannot be repeated enough. Use a good toner after you cleanse, preferably one with Lactic or Glycolic acid. This helps tighten the pores. A toner also helps maintain the pH balance of your skin.
Prime
Using a primer underneath your makeup makes a big difference to your makeup application. It evens out the skin, making it appear smooth and even.. Primers with with silicone or dimethicone work best for most skin types.
Apply sunscreen
Make sunscreen an integral part of your skincare routine. UV rays from the sun break down collagen and elastin in the skin which make the pores appear larger. Whether you’re indoors or outdoors remember to always apply sunscreen, and opt for one that suits your skin type.
