5 Casual Dating Rules You Must Know

5 Casual Dating Rules

Casual dating is all things fun minus the drama. However, there is a possibility of things going not as per plan, especially since there is a lot of confusion surrounding this term. Let us make a few things clear. When you are casually dating someone, you are basically involved in a relationship with a person of a physical or emotional nature which may or may not involve being sexual with the person. However, one thing it doesn’t involve is the formality of a romantic relationship or the expectations that accompany a serious commitment like meeting friends or being a part of family dinners. That being said, there are several rules you still need to follow to maintain a healthy casual relationship.

Rule 1: Define the relationship

This may seem like a given but talk to your partner on what is important for you and what is not on the table. The idea here is to make sure you and your partner are on the same page. Topics like should you see other people or just each other, should you use terms of endearment are all points you need to discuss beforehand to avoid confusion later.

Rule 2: Making plans

Unlike serious relationships, in casual relationships, you shouldn’t make plans that seem bordering on things getting more complex. Plans involving your friends or family, or plans that are a month later should ideally be avoided. Just remember, no plan should involve something that goes beyond a span of 7 days.

Rule 3: Take a break for emotions

There is always a possibility of one falling in love when it comes to spending time with someone. So if you feel that either you or your partner is getting emotionally involved and getting those feelings of love, then take a break. But be upfront about it rather than ghosting your partner.

Rule 4: Respect is of utmost importance

In any relationship, you need to respect your partner. Just because it is a “casual” relationship does not mean you shouldn’t return calls or messages or keep the person hanging. This is just out and about wrong. Do not take the other person for granted or ask them to do you some personal favours. Your friend can always watch your dog when you are out of town.

Rule 5: Self-development

Now is the time you should look at yourself as an individual and work towards developing yourself. This could mean learning something to further your career or reconnecting with your family and friends. Just remember, this relationship allows you to do whatever you please without feeling overwhelmed about the needs and demands of your bae.
